About The MINESHAFT

It started as a newsletter -- an election's year entity that would assist voters in being able to read the news the others were reluctant to print. But it quickly gained a reputation as being more than one man's opinions - it brought people interested in seeing things change to the forefront. And now it's a 'street sheet' that is gaining momentum and going strong.

Quartzsite's 'Underground' Newspaper?

They say that because it's called 'The MINESHAFT.' However, it may remain a close facsimile to what is classifiably known as an 'Underground Newspaper' because it connotes an 'Independent' publication, owing loyalty to no one and dedicated only to the truth. In my estimation, that's a great thing.

What is the future of 'The MINESHAFT?'

  • The goal of The MINESHAFT is to answer the concerns of the people. When the town is broke and monies continue to be spent at a rapid rate -- much more rapidly than monies are coming in -- it can only end in disaster. If no one is willing to put those truths into the public forum, The MINESHAFT will provide them.

  • Ed Foster, Mayor, utilizes The MINESHAFT to provide information.  But it was a project that needed to be done because the citizens of Quartzsite believe themselves to be under-represented by their elected officials, they complain of political retribution when they ask too many questions or the wrong kinds of questions, and their town is broke. They report that they feel the coming water and sewer rate increases and impact and capacity fees will be more than the community can bear -- and they're concerned that the people 'running' Quartzsite are unqualified to hold these positions, causing the disastrous financial position we face today. From the research already done, they could be right.

  • The MINESHAFT seeks to fill a void. We need up to date, GENUINE, RESEARCHABLE information. We need the truth. And it needs to be independent of the control of the town and the 'status quo.'

  • The MINESHAFT is here to stay -- and we are actively working toward a great repoire between the MINESHAFT and the public at large. The goal is to represent the needs of the community and not just a select few.

What relationship is there between The MINESHAFT and the Citizen's Coalition?

  • Accusations and/or allegations concerning an affiliation between The MINESHAFT and the Citizen's Coalition are unfounded. Ed Foster has served as 'acting Director' of the Citizen's Coalition only in the absence of another. The MINESHAFT is Ed Foster's project, the Citizen's Coalition is not. It is the express hope of this publisher that Quartzsite will soon see a day in which people check their facts with those who know them before publishing falsehoods.

The stated goal of The CITIZEN'S COALITION was to provide a forum for the people and it is an educationally oriented group. Unfortunately, there are so many problems facing Quartzsite at this time that it seems the people that attend Citizen Coalition meetings have been singled out and -- until this situation is rectified -- open meetings have ceased, and private meetings of individuals have become the standard.

  • I'm proud of The MINESHAFT, what it's become and all it represents as a voice for the people. I hope it will become a staple in your list of great reads!

Verifying the Facts:

In Quartzsite, when listening to complaints about the media, find out why they're complaining.

Then read whatever publication they've said they're reading and make certain they are not misrepresenting the content. Compare facts to fiction.

Then find out how they're related to the sitting town council or representatives of the sitting town council and ask them this:

Why are they afraid of The MINESHAFT?
